When you’re a kid, your birthday is an incredibly special and memorable time that can be one of the highlights of the year. However, planning birthday parties is not always easy for parents. If you’re the kind of parent who always pulls off Pinterest-worthy parties for your kids, you’ve probably already got this covered, but if you’re not, keep reading these tips to host a memorable and magical birthday party for your child.
Have the party somewhere other than your home
It may seem counter-intuitive, but having a party at an external site can actually be less work than having it at your house. This is mainly due to the cleanup factor. A party at your house will very likely mess up your entire house, and you could spend days afterward putting everything back in order. A party at an external site keeps the party contained to that site, and you have much less cleanup to do afterward. Here at Heavenly Haven, we offer you the possibility of hosting your child’s private birthday party at our facility. Why look any further for good party places when you could simply plan to come to the place that your child is already familiar with and loves?
Prioritize being WITH your child over doing things FOR your child
When you’re busy, it’s easy to forget that the main thing that your child wants is to simply be WITH you. A simple party without a ton of fuss–but where your child feels that you were fully present–will be more memorable and special than an extravaganza where you’re so stressed out that you get snappy or out of patience with your child on their birthday. In the months prior to your child’s birthday, study their likes and dislikes, discover the things that make them feel special, watch for what makes their eyes light up, and incorporate these things into their birthday. One child might feel valued and loved when you speak meaningful words of love and affirmation to them, while another might feel more loved and cared for by the chance for some snuggles or wrestling or horsey rides on your back. Do what will delight your child.
Invite a few friends
If the thought of a party with 15 little kids running around scares you to death, then just invite four or five kids. Forget about trying to include everyone if this is just going to overwhelm your party and make it into something that gets out of control. Your child’s party should be fun for everyone, even you! Try following this rule of thumb: Invite one child for every year of your child’s age. For example, if your son or daughter is 8, invite eight kids.
Plan a simple activity
It may seem like you need to come up with the most creative idea in the world that no one has ever seen before, but you don’t. If you think back to your own childhood, you’ll realize that the activities that adults planned at parties were really quite simple. They just seemed magical because children have such vivid imaginations that things become larger than life. Your kindness, patience, and overall fun-loving spirit will go a long way towards making the activity fun.
